New "Black Squares" Series
Share
I've recently completed a collection of gouache paintings on 10" square black pieces of paper. In this format, I was able to show scenes that I'd always wanted to convey: moody images captured on a night walk, dark passages around the city, and structures against a dusk sky. The language of black paper is different from traditional white paper--it allows a reversal of my usual watercolor technique, so that I can use the paper itself for shadows. And the use of gouache enables the layering of colors in an additive way, so that I can paint from dark to light. It was a blast to paint this series and I hope you enjoy them as well.
The Black Squares collection is now for sale here. There are no plans to sell prints of these works in the future, so grab your original painting before it's gone!
