Almost everyday, during my neighborhood walks or runs, I pass this alleyway between 630 and 640 Fort Washington Ave. The view is nothing special, but once the sky darkens, it’s like a show seen through a narrow, dramatic window. The scene bursts from lights clashing and spilling over haphazard fencing and skewed metal, from air conditioners balanced precariously on wooden shims, from random ducts, and from the faint, scraggly lines of fire escape ladders. I’ve heard the wise advice that when a scene compels you, you should consider the reason it does and then make the whole painting hang around that. Sometimes it seems I need the darkness in order to express the way I see the world.

    The use of colors is…sublime

To be honest, it’s even more stunning at home than what I remember at Buunni Coffee. The use of colors and reflections of light bouncing from the wall is sublime.
