Javits Bus Stop, Washington Heights
Javits Bus Stop, Washington Heights
Many people at first think it’s a photograph. And it also surprises them that the silhouettes and darks are actually the black paper itself. This painting shows one of the scenes I came across recently on one of my regular night strolls. It’s a familiar bus stop across from the 190th Street subway station. This mundane scene glowed in the darkness and was perfect for depicting as a nocturne painting. This is part of a series of nocturne paintings which I created over two years, using gouache paint on black paper.
