Looking Down the Stairs, Painting
Looking Down the Stairs, Painting
This is the artwork currently on display inside the elevator at the 190th Street station of the A train in Washington Heights!
This long staircase takes you along West 187th Street between Fort Washington Avenue and Overlook Terrace down the hill. I've patiently waited months for a moment to capture on the 187th Street Stairs, this time looking down/east toward Broadway. On this wintry day, the snow lends depth to the background which makes the scene moody and for me, more interesting to paint.
Original Painting (22"x30") has been sold.

This print is beautiful and completely captures the essence of Hudson Heights and one of its major focal points. Francis is a gifted artist and I am so happy to have one of his pieces in my home.

Every time we look at one of the pieces of Francis' art we're lucky enough to own - the snowy 187th street stairs, a lush path in Fort Tryon, a view of the bluffs from the Chittenden wall, lovers on a Linden Terrace bench - we're instantly transported to another moment in time.

Having lived in Washington Heights for years, I have come to ignore some of the splendor of the neighborhood. But seeing my neighborhood through Francis’s artwork renews that enchantment and my love for the Heights.
